Rachel Therrien

Internationally acclaimed trumpeter, composer, producer, and bandleader Rachel Therrien is known for her versatility, creativity, and distinctive voice.

A GRAMMY nominee for Virtual Birdland (2021) with Arturo O’Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, she has also received multiple ADISQ and JUNO nominations.

Winner of the 2015 TD Grand Prize at the Montreal International Jazz Festival and the 2016 Stingray Rising Star Award, Therrien has performed worldwide, collaborating with leading jazz artists and appearing at major venues and festivals. Her latest album, Mi Hogar II (2025), features 25 musicians and was recorded across Montreal, Toronto, and New York.

Originally from Rimouski, Quebec, Therrien draws on musical influences from across the Americas, the Caribbean, and Europe. She holds degrees in jazz performance from the New Jersey City University and the Université de Montréal, and further training from Havana’s Instituto Superior de Arte and the Banff Centre.

A prolific bandleader with eight albums, Therrien also works as a producer and advocate. In 2013, she founded the Montreal Jazz Composers Series, supporting over 200 emerging musicians.
